Direct-Source Cacao

Direct Sourced

Gianduia is a style of chocolate first conceived in the Piedmont region of Italy. Legend has it that during the Napoleonic wars, cacao was scarce. One inventive soul tried substituting hazelnut for cacao and before they could say molto bene! a new chocolate was born, which was named after a puppet - Gianduia.

They toast New Zealand hazelnuts and grind them together with cacao to make Kiwi-style Gianduia, smooth and soft with pure hazelnut flavor. All their chocolate is made using directly traded, traceable and slave-free cocoa beans.

Maker

Hogarth

Hogarth Chocolate is a small craft chocolate maker in Nelson, New Zealand. The founders Karl and Marina started making chocolate after Karl was inspired by craft chocolate after a trip to South America when he tasted pure cacao for the first time. Karl was inspired by the true flavors of chocolate is capable of. Their chocolate hobby evolved into a business so Karl could spend more time at home with his family, a completely different direction from his 20 years of former seafaring life. Karl tinkers with and makes machines to make the chocolate making process more efficient and precise. The team at Hogarth is always on a mission to find new inspiration from the world to be transformed into their next chocolate bar.

Cacao Region

Carabobo, Venezuela

Encompassing the famous cacao-growing municipalities of Puerto Cabello and Trincheras, Carabobo grows some of the finest criollo cacao varietals in the world. The region is predominantly rural, with national parks, natural cloud forests, and innumerable cacao plantations dotting the landscape as far as the eye can see. Its easy access to international ports is part of what has allowed the region’s cacao estates to flourish on the global market, as in the early years, much of the country’s cacao was shipped from one of those two harbors.

Delicious and addictive

I love this gianduja bar. It's nearly perfect, with a really lovely, creamy texture. I tend to like very bitter gianduja, and this is on the sweet side for me, but most people will probably find it perfect. Will definitely be repurchasing.

Completely different kind of chocolate

This is the smoothest, softest chocolate I’ve ever eaten. The closest thing to a bar of ganache that I can think of. Some folks might miss the traditional “snap” of chocolate but the softness feels so indulgent to bite into, and as a vegan this has the texture of milk chocolate but the nutty richness of dark. This chocolate has only one flaw—I only allow myself to take one bite at a time because it’s pretty energy-dense even for chocolate.

Best Gianduia Bar

Yup, this is it. The bar you have been looking for. You can actually taste two important things in this bar. The hazelnut is the first flavor you get. Then you can actually taste the chocolate after that! The melt is oh so smooth!

Silky smooth, velvety goodness

Opening the package of this bar was a delight. I felt like a kid who found treasure! Taking a bite out of this chocolate was an experience. It melts in your mouth and fills your palate with silky smooth, velvety, hazelnutty goodness. This chocolate doesn't snap, but you won't miss it!

Addictive

The best dark gianduja bar. The Venezuelan Cacao and N.Z. hazelnuts are a great match. So smooth and delicious.
