Based in New Orleans, LA, Acalli, is a bean to bar chocolate maker sources their cacao directly from their farmers at origin. Acalli means ‘canoe’ in Nahuatl, the same language gave us the word ‘chocolate’. Acalli decided to use a canoe as their logo to represent what they love about chocolate; its way of connecting people in far places, its elegant simplicity and the commitment to adventure and discovery with each bar. It was also an early method of transporting cocoa beans. Carol Morse the owner and chocolate maker began making chocolate in 2013, after a visit to Guatemala. She met cacao farmers and local chocolate makers and became intrigued by the process. It inspired her to purchase small scale equipment and started making and mastering her own chocolate bars.
