Maker

Belvie Chocolate

Based in Vietnam, Belvie Chocolate is a bean to bar maker that handcrafts their chocolate bars with Belgian techniques. They source cacao from all over Vietnam, then stone grind and produce their chocolate in small batches. Their award winning chocolate also contributes to the preservation of cacao trees in Vietnam. They take the husks of the cacao as fertilizer for the trees to help maintain a green environment. Belvie uses Trinitario cacao beans only from local farmers to help restore cacao trees throughout Vietnam and mostly importantly, to help support the farmers.

Cacao Region

Lam Dong, Vietnam

Lam Dong is a province located in the Western Highlands region of Vietnam, unique from the Southern Vietnamese due to their unique accent, large indigenous population, and varying alliances during the Civil War. The provincial capital of Đà Lạt is now a rather famous coffee origin, as well as a large tourist destination during the warmer months. Lam Dong's economy is based largely on agriculture, with tea, coffee and vegetables being the main agricultural products; cacao is a very small part of the region's output due to the mountainous terrain.

rich and smoky

I'd only tried the Belvie mini bars before this. I was surprised at how different the full bar tastes. Much thicker bar than the mini one. Rich smoky flavor, like an espresso brownie.

Quality bar good base chocolate

Really well made bar. Not too sweet or bitter. Nice mid range flavor profile for base chocolate. Not very complex or interesting either.
