Castronovo was started by Denise Castronovo in Stuart, Florida. While Castronovo was only launched in 2013, Denise has made some strikingly different and exceptional chocolate that has won over twenty awards both nationally and internationally. Denise is the first woman-owned bean to bar chocolate company in the U.S that won an award from the International Chocolate Awards! Denise picks heirloom varieties of cacao from remote regions that help to conserve the rainforest and highlight the exclusive flavors from those regions. Castronovo also ensures that the beans she uses come from plantations that naturally exist in the wild, or from small farms that practice sustainable farming. Denise is there every step of the way to ensure not only quality chocolate bars but ensuring that even the beans are carefully looked after. Castronovo decided to get into the chocolate making business after her original career as an ecologist and owning her own company that uses mapping technology to look at satellite imagery for ecological health slowed down in 2008. She purchased a bag of cacao beans, when it dawned on her that, that was the first time she realized where chocolate comes from. Show Less
