Maker

Momotombo

Momotombo is an artisan craft chocolate maker in Managua, Nicaragua founded by Carlos Mann in 2004. Nicaragua is a country known for its rich tropical climate and volcanoes, as well as millennia old cacao culture. Momotombo has a direct relationship with the farms from which they source their cacao, and local ingredients. The chocolate making has evolved from a small family kitchen to a store/shop they opened in 2016. Momotombo has been making "bon bon" chocolates and recently expanded to include a collection of bars.

Cacao Region

Waslala, Nicaragua

Waslala is a town and municipality in the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region of Nicaragua. The country’s national revolution during the 1970’s and 80’s affected Waslala tremendously, as it was the location of many guerrilla fights. But these days Waslala and the surrounding areas are more peaceful, covered with vegetation, rivers and streams, and scenic views of the countryside. The fine flavor cacao from this region currently comes from the Ingemann group. It’s produced by a cooperative of about 150 farmers located in the nearby rainforest, which is the largest in Central America, second only to the Amazon Rainforest.

Delicious!

We just got into higher percentage chocolate and were a little nervous to try 90 but this bar was by far the best we have ever had!

Great 90% chocolate! Although their 100% is my current favorite 100 bar

Earthy

Pretty straightforward, for me this one was a pretty standard "cocoa" flavor. Dry on the tongue, earthy

One of the yummiest 90% bars!

I've been looking to try Momotombo bars for a while and am glad that bar & cocoa carries them. This is one of the best 90% bars I have ever tasted along with Pump Street Jamaica 90%. It has a sweet, fruity aroma and an incredible silky mouthfeel. I get subtle caramel tasting notes and there is no astringency considering it has 90% cocoa content. An incredible tasting experience!
