Marou Chocolate

Marou Chocolat was started by two Frenchmen Samuel Maruta and Vincent Mourou in Saigon. After a camping trip in Vietnam, that left them venturing onto a cacao farm, they were sold on their next adventure, chocolate. They only had minimal everyday kitchen appliances at the time and started testing how to make chocolate in Sam’s kitchen. They work closely with farmers and slow roast the beans in small batches to get the natural flavors from its terroir and let it do all the work. They are the first bean to bar Vietnamese chocolate makers. Their bars captivate flavors from each region they receive their cacao beans from.

Marou Lam Dong

Very mild dark chocolate bar. Creamy texture (compared to the Baria 76% I tried). Fruity and roasted nuances. After every single bite prunes notes are all over your palate followed by raisins and strong espresso aftertaste. I detect long finish spicy notes as cardamom or anice.

Marou, I love you!

Marou chocolates do a very fine job of showcasing flavors from different regions of Vietnam. I like to get several different bars and taste them side-by-side. This one is a bit spicy, a bit fruity and has a good depth of flavors, while being fairly smooth on the tongue. Their hand silk-screened packaging is beautiful as well.
