Maker

Exquisito Chocolate

Exquisito Chocolate founder Carolina Qijano, is known as the “Chocolate Empress”. While she was on a business trip to Paris for her Wall Street consulting job, she tasted a bar of delicious life-changing chocolate and spent the next two years trying to re-create it in her NYC studio a — all while still working her demanding job on Madison Avenue. In 2014, after hundreds of recipe trials, she moved to Miami to start a chocolate factory and fulfill her chocolate dreams. The rest, as they say, is history.

Cacao Region

Tumaco, Colombia

Tumaco is a port city & municipality in the Nariño Department, on the Pacific Ocean side of coastal Colombia. It’s located less than 30 miles from the border with Ecuador, and enjoys a year-round tropical rainforest climate, even on the region’s many beaches. Most of the residents of Tumaco are Afro-Colombian or indigenous peoples, many of whom rely upon agriculture to make their living; largely in either rice, oil palm, or cacao.
