Maker

Fjåk Chocolate

Fjåk Chocolate, Norway’s first bean to bar chocolate maker! Fjåk focuses on ethically traded, organic cacao beans while using fresh ingredients inspired by their surrounding Nordic nature. Starting the chocolate journey in 2015, owners Agur and Siv spent two years experimenting and perfecting their chocolate. Fjåk was officially launched in 2017 and already won multiple awards by 2018. The name Fjåk comes from the Hardanger dialect, where people in the region would refer to each other as fjåk. It roughly translates to ‘loveable’ or ‘honest’ and well chocolate is the most loveable thing in the world!

Cacao Region

Sambirano Valley, Madagascar

Perhaps the most famous growing region in the world, northern Madagascar's Sambirano Valley is known for its incredibly fruity cacao and aromatic herbs & spices. Over the past few decades three main plantations have popped up in the area to supply cacao to chocolate makers around the world, as well as some of the world's most valuable botanicals, namely vanilla, ylang-ylang, and essential oil extracts.

Cacao Estate

Akesson Estate

Perhaps one of the most famous origins in the world, Akesson’s Estate consists of several individual farms in northwestern Madagascar’s Sambirano Valley. The most prolific of these is certainly Bejofo Estate, which alone produces around 300 tons of cocoa each year. Over the last decade, Malagasy cacao (cacao grown on Madagascar) has earned a reputation for fruity, almost juicy cacao beans, which transform into some of the most unique chocolate in the world. All of the cacao grown on Akesson Estate is organic-certified.

Best Madagascar I’ve tried

Has all of the classic red fruit/berry notes and so much more. Hard to put this one down. Definitely a new favourite.

Fjåk Madagascar chocolate is delicious

I don’t really know what to write about this chocolate except that I love it. Lighter in color and seems slightly lighter flavor than many other chocolates including others by Fjåk - I think this is typical of Madagascar chocolates. This is maybe
slightly sweeter than my preference if I can find any possible defect. This chocolate is expensive (sadly many of the best ones are) so has to be used with some restraint, which must be a good thing I suppose.

Good solid bar

This is a nice bar. It didn't have as much of the traditional flavors I tend to expect out of a Madagascar bar. They were all there, just a little softer. It has the mouthfeel of just barely not perfectly smooth. It really is a good bar with very clean flavors.
