Round, dark chocolate with notes of banana & raisins.
The cocoa beans come from Kilombero Valley, bordering the Udzungwa Mountain national park. There the social enterprise Kokoa Kamili drives a huge change by buying wet beans directly from the farmers at premium prices, and carefully controlling fermentation and drying.

Maker
Fjåk ChocolateFjåk Chocolate, Norway’s first bean to bar chocolate maker! Fjåk focuses on ethically traded, organic cacao beans while using fresh ingredients inspired by their surrounding Nordic nature. Starting the chocolate journey in 2015, owners Agur and Siv spent two years experimenting and perfecting their chocolate. Fjåk was officially launched in 2017 and already won multiple awards by 2018. The name Fjåk comes from the Hardanger dialect, where people in the region would refer to each other as fjåk. It roughly translates to ‘loveable’ or ‘honest’ and well chocolate is the most loveable thing in the world!
Cacao Region
Morogoro, TanzaniaMorogoro is a large state in central Tanzania, known for its hot & humid weather and its large game preserves. The main source of cocoa in the region comes from the Kilombero Valley, the base of a central fermentary called Kokoa Kamili, which was founded in 2012. Since its introduction ot the country in the late 19th century, cocoa in Tanzania has been almost exclusively grown by smallholder farmers, and before the entrance of Kokoa Kamili, these farmers had very little incentive to produce better cocoa.
Cacao Estate
Kokoa KamiliStarted in 2012 by friends Brian LoBue and Simran Bindra, Kokoa Kamili is one of the few African-origin cocoas which have been universally praised around the world. The team, which is based in Tanzania’s Kilombero Valley, has achieved a remarkably consistent post-harvest process, setting a standard in the region by buying wet beans at a premium and fermenting & drying them in a central location. This garners them an exceptionally fruity and rich cocoa, grown right in the nation’s Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Kokoa Kamili now works with nearly 3000 farmers in the region, all of whom get paid a premium immediately for their wet cacao, lessening their workload while also increasing their income.
I check website monthly and too often out of dark 80-100. Theirs is the best. Anyway to know if, when to expect their dark chocolates back in stock. Thank you
This Fjak 80% dark chocolate is good, with a smooth melt and a fruity, bright flavor. Not as dark or strong a chocolate flavor as I would expect for 80%, though. It is interesting and a bit different - try it for a fun change!
Great if you like dark chocolate!
