Latitude ChocolateLatitude Craft Chocolate is a vertically integrated social enterprise, producing specialty cocoa and craft chocolate at origin in Uganda. When we say ‘made at origin’ we mean it – Latitude buys, ferments, and processes raw cocoa at facilities near the farms before it goes to their own chocolate making factory in Kampala. Through direct face-to-face relationships with all of their farmers and cocoa suppliers, Latitude’s transparent and 100% traceable cocoa supply chain is re-defining the term sustainability. Latitude Craft Chocolate works with over 2,000 contracted smallholder farmers (50% female) to source freshly harvested organic certified cocoa in Western Uganda. Through their supplier program, Latitude has long term contracts with farmers to grow organic cacao, promote biodiversity and ensure fair labor practices on all farms.
Cacao Estate
Semuliki ForestLocated in Bundibugyo, Western Uganda, Semuliki Forest Cacao is grown by over a thousand organic smallholder farmers in the region, more than half of whom are women. Latitude Trade Co. (LTC), the company that processes and exports this cacao, has organized 6 rural collection points for farmers to access, where every week they can sell fresh into the network and receive cash payment immediately. Latitude's centralized fermentation facility and warehouse is strategically located in the village of Bumate, where they can receive optimal natural light and limited impact from rainfall. All Semuliki Forest cacao is certified organic.
LLinda W.We only eat white chocolate due to caffeine restrictions. The caramel flavor adds a delicious dreamy taste. Bar and Cocoa provides superior summertime shipping.
JJ.S.a bit too sweet but has nice flavour
JJ.S.Flavorful but it’s too sweet for me
AAlexandraIt has a perfect Dulce de Leche color and scent. It is very floral, yet not overly sweet. Perhaps, goes best with a cup of dark coffee on a moody fall morning.
DDustinI love Latitudes 70% Semuliki. Every time I have a bite I can taste the Organic Ugandan cocoa while also leaving a smooth sweet aftertaste. What a fun story to know bean to bar in Uganda as well!
