In Venezuela, the birthplace of cocoa, Valrhona has selected and combined several cocoas with rare aromatic power, born from the contrasting lands between the Caribbean coasts and the Andes mountain range. From its strikingly bitter essence, Araguani 72% offers a rich and complex aromatic profile featuring warm notes (raisins, chestnuts) and hints of licorice.

Maker

Valrhona

Valrhona is recognized as one of the greatest bean to bar chocolate makers, and founded the world renowned Ecole du Grand Chocolat school, of which many excellent chocolate makers are graduates, including many featured in our Shop and Chocolate Club. Valrhona has been producing chocolate in the small village of Tain L’Hermitage, France since 1922. From the beginning, they have been dedicated to create the unique, artisan quality chocolate with complex, balanced and consistent flavors. With years of working towards perfecting techniques for enhancing the flavor of cocoa beans. In order to master the art of craft chocolate, they have their own plantations in Venezuela and the Dominican Republic.

Cacao Region

Aragua, Venezuela

Aragua State is located squarely in northern Venezuela, along the central coast. The region encompasses a variety of climes, including beaches, plains, and jungles, the latter of which is home to one of the state’s many industries: cacao farming. The municipalities of Choroní, Ocumare, and Chuao are some of the most famous & historic cacao-growing areas of Venezuela, as well as the home of— arguably— its most beautiful beaches. In Ocumare the main industries are fishing and cacao production, while Chuao is famously close to the capital city of Caracas, but difficult to get to. The village is only accessible by travelling via boat from nearby Choroní, and then trekking a few miles inland.

Robust and strong

A robust, roasted flavor that pairs well with coffee and espresso. It was one-note, but that’s not a bad thing! Was a little harder to melt on the tongue, so take your time with tasting this one!

Love this chocolate but not the best in the line for my uses

Good but not great

Tastes a bit waxy, probably due to the soy lecithin. It’s good but not great.
