Collection: Karkar, Papua New Guinea

Karkar is an oval-shaped volcanic island located in the Bismarck Sea, about 20 miles north of mainland Papua New Guinea. In the center of the island is an active volcano, the last recorded eruption of which took place in 2014. Thanks to the fertile volcanic soil, Karkar easily grows cash crops such as betel nut, mustard plant, and lime, but the main exports are coconut and cacao.
