The cocoa sold under this brand is produced by the Goleagorbu Cocoa Producers Organisation (GCPO), an umbrella association of nearly two thousand cocoa farmers in Sierra Leone. This origin is also often referred to by the name of the protected area next to which the farmers grow their cacao, the Gola Rainforest National Park. Utilizing some established carbon-reduction funding, the Gola Rainforest cocoa project was able to partner with several organizations to bring their aims of land conservation and a cooperative business model to fruition. Through the help of much training, the alliances have helped farmers to organize democratically around a viable economic opportunity in specialty cocoa and develop the skills necessary to succeed.
