Collection: Estación Chama

Estación Experimental Chama is a Venezuelan seed bank located deep in the cacao-growing area south of Lake Maracaibo. The center’s breeding programs provide sanctuary for one of Venezuela's most prized and rarest cacao varietals, the Porcelana. The Estación was originally founded in reaction to threats of extinction of the varietal, and the best way to maintain it is by maintaining their trees. The center’s working plantation is dedicated to the propagation and preservation of only the Porcelana variety, and even supplies seedlings to farmers interested in reviving the historic strain.
