Malakula Island, also spelled Malekula, is the second-largest island in the country of Vanuatu, in the Pacific Ocean. Despite its size, there are nearly thirty different languages spoken on the island, and the largest sector of the economy is dedicated to the cultivation of coconuts. In recent years, a small number of farmers have shifted focus to cacao, but coconut remains overwhelmingly dominant, a fact which is evident with just a quick tour of the isle. Show Less
