The village of Moruga lies in the center of Trinidad’s southern coast, about 30 miles from the northwestern coast of Venezuela. The main industries in the town are oil extraction, and agriculture & fishing, with notable crops being cacao, rice, and hot peppers. The well-known Moruga Scorpion hot pepper, one of the hottest varieties in the world, takes its name from the area, to where it is native.
