Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas is a province in northwestern Ecuador, relatively flat but for the small portion situated at the foot of the Andes Mountain Range. The name of the province refers to a local ethnic group, the Tsáchilas, also known as the colorados or “dyed ones,” on account of the custom of men dyeing their hair with bright red achiote paste.
