Kokoa Kamili is a central fermentary that works with approximately 1500 small shareholder farms in the Kilombero Valley of Tanzania, most of whom range in size from just 0.5–2 acres. In an area that historically received some of the lowest prices for cocoa in the country, Kokoa Kamili is now paying a premium well above market rate to the farmers for wet cacao, and controlling the post-harvest processing themselves. This results in higher compensation and a reduced workload for the farmers, and ultimately produces a more consistent, high quality product.

Monsoon Chocolate maker Adam Krantz imports cacao from Peru, India and Ecuador and combines them with local ingredients in Arizona to make a delightful selection of chocolate bars and confetions. We are pleased to feature his beautifully wrapped bean to bar collection. Krantz and his team have won a multitude of chocolate awards, and was recently named as one of Food & Wine's Best Chocolate Shops in America list.

Kokoa Kamili

Started in 2012 by friends Brian LoBue and Simran Bindra, Kokoa Kamili is one of the few African-origin cocoas which have been universally praised around the world. The team, which is based in Tanzania’s Kilombero Valley, has achieved a remarkably consistent post-harvest process, setting a standard in the region by buying wet beans at a premium and fermenting & drying them in a central location. This garners them an exceptionally fruity and rich cocoa, grown right in the nation’s Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Kokoa Kamili now works with nearly 3000 farmers in the region, all of whom get paid a premium immediately for their wet cacao, lessening their workload while also increasing their income.
