Approximately a ten hour drive from Tanzania's main city of Dar es Salaam, Kokoa Kamili is based in the village of Mbingu (Kiswahili for Heaven) in the Kilombero Valley area of the Morogoro region bordering the Udzungwa Mountain National Park. Mbingu is fairly rural with no access to electricity or tarred roads for about sixty kilometers.
Kokoa Kamili pays premiums to farmers in the region who grow quality cacao to encourage them to seek quality over quantity.

LetterPress ChocolateLetterPress Chocolate was cofounded by David and Corey Menkes in Los Angeles, CA. They founded LetterPress with the purpose of paying cocoa farmers a a premium for quality, sourcing their cacao through direct trade, and working with partners such as Uncommon Cacao, Meridian Cacao. Quality above quantity with as few ingredients as possible to make the best chocolate possible is their mission. On the inside flap of every bar is their favorite quote from Benjamin Franklin: “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.”
Cacao Estate
Kokoa KamiliStarted in 2012 by friends Brian LoBue and Simran Bindra, Kokoa Kamili is one of the few African-origin cocoas which have been universally praised around the world. The team, which is based in Tanzania’s Kilombero Valley, has achieved a remarkably consistent post-harvest process, setting a standard in the region by buying wet beans at a premium and fermenting & drying them in a central location. This garners them an exceptionally fruity and rich cocoa, grown right in the nation’s Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Kokoa Kamili now works with nearly 3000 farmers in the region, all of whom get paid a premium immediately for their wet cacao, lessening their workload while also increasing their income.
Very good chocolate for all lovers of the bean.
This bar is amazing I've already ordered it again because I'm craving the taste. It's right up there with Soma and Quantu
I have been impressed with all of the Letterpress chocolates that I have tried, and this one was not an exception. I bought it because I remembered liking Kokoa Kamili from Twenty-four Blackbirds. The version by Letterpress is equally pleasing. In fact, I tried to find the Letterpress bar amongst my many bars to give an on-the-spot tasting note for this review and found that the wrapper was empty. That says it all - great taste - I ate it before my other chocolate bars!! And, it is organic. A win and a win.
The main feature of this chocolate bar which took me off guard at first was how smooth it breaks, how nice it melts, and how creamy it is. The taste is fine, but everything else stands out more.
Found this and I’m interested to try more
