Amazonas is an Amazonian department of Peru, located in the north of the country. The vast and deep Marañón valley is partially located in Amazonas, and constitutes one of the most important physical features of the region. With a tropical landscape that includes steep river gorges and mountains, most of the department is still a part of the rainforest, an integral part of its main economic activity: agriculture.
