Cacao Estate
Juliana PlantationOn the easternmost tip of Bahia State in Brazil is the protected Pratigi Zone, where Juliana Plantation is located. Like many of the plantations of Bahia State, which was once the most productive cacao-growing region in the world, Juliana Plantation has needed lots of attention & care to overcome the plague of Witch’s Broom fungus which destroyed Brazilian cocoa in the 1980’s & 90’s. For the last twenty years, the farmers of Juliana have meticulously selected the best cocoa trees in order to recapture the quality which had made Brazilian cocoa the world’s standard in the 19th century.
