Cacao region

Guadalcanal

Guadalcanal Province in the Solomon Islands is mainly covered in dense tropical rainforest with rich volcanic soil and small cacao plantations along the coast. The region grows Amelonado and Trinitario varieties without chemicals in naturally organic conditions. Farmers work beneath coconut palms, producing distinctive island terroir cacao in one of the world's most intact rainforest environments.

We have tried dozens of award-winning brands and Firetree is consistently excellent. In our experience, at least 50% of the other brands had texture/quality issues (chalky, too soft, too hard, bloomed). Some like Bonnat were sour or unremarkable in taste (as some grocery store bars). Some are outright horrible (Raaka, Mast).

Firetree is of Amedei quality at a much better price.

Not good and too sour

I feel misled by the positive reviews for this chocolate bar. It’s the worst tasting one out of all the different brands I’ve tried so far. I can’t even eat the rest of it, rather just throw it out. So disappointing.

The flavour of fine chocolate can be incredibly personal, with each cocoa origin offering its own distinctive character and natural tasting notes. We also find that 100% cocoa chocolate can come as quite a surprise, particularly if you're more familiar with milk chocolate or sweeter dark chocolates. Without any added sugar, the pure cocoa flavours are much more pronounced, making it a very different experience from what many people expect when they think of chocolate.

We genuinely appreciate you giving Firetree a try and are sorry that this particular bar wasn't the right fit for your palate.

The 100% Chocolate that Started It All

This is the chocolate that got us started on 100% chocolate. Smooth texture, with a snap. It's great with scotch.

Had to double check the packaging...

This 100% bar is so good, I had to double check that I was actually eating 100%. I love the intense experience of 100% chocolate, but this bar is so smooth and the flavors are so layered. It leaves a slight sweetness on your tongue. Seriously wonderful bar. I will be getting it again.

You can taste the volcano

I would describe this as “smoky” it has a rich, dark tone and a balanced nutty flavor. Very satisfying.

I’ll Eat This So You Won’t Have to

Why did Firetree do this? They made a 100% bar that tastes like it must have sugar in it. No 100% bar can be so sublime, smooth, decadent tasting. It’s fudgy, like a brownie in a bar. It’s just terrible that they made this bar, so maybe I should buy them all so you won’t have to be burdened by them…

I really enjoy this 100% bar. Not to mention, it is also the only Firetree without lecithin. I found very attractive the wrap and the mold of the bar is so elegant but the lecithin... Anyways, this bar is not very bitter or astringent. It is rich yet delicate with a natural sweetness, nutty notes, tangy fruitiness, and heavy cream mouthfeel.

decadent and tasty 100% chocolate

This 100% bar stands out among the other 100% bars as the most decadent, fudge-like, and satisfyingly simple flavor. Rich fudge flavor despite there being literally only cacao as the single ingredient. And as the inner pamphlet mentioned, the "fig" tasting note is also quite noticeable. A great 100% chocolate bar!
