Maker
Marou ChocolateMarou Chocolat was started by two Frenchmen Samuel Maruta and Vincent Mourou in Saigon. After a camping trip in Vietnam, that left them venturing onto a cacao farm, they were sold on their next adventure, chocolate. They only had minimal everyday kitchen appliances at the time and started testing how to make chocolate in Sam’s kitchen. They work closely with farmers and slow roast the beans in small batches to get the natural flavors from its terroir and let it do all the work. They are the first bean to bar Vietnamese chocolate makers. Their bars captivate flavors from each region they receive their cacao beans from.
Cacao Region
Tien Giang, VietnamTien Giang is one of the southernmost provinces of Vietnam, located just south of Ho Chi Minh City in the Mekong Delta region. Within Vietnam, the province is famous for its large and varied agricultural sector, home of the headquarters of several large fruit brands and producer of nearly 1.5 million tons of fruit each year. Tourism is important to the region, but the local government is aiming to look beyond the lush rice paddies to develop the land further over the next decade, exploiting every bit of greenery they can.
CCharlotteRidiculously gorgeous packaging and ridiculously delicious chocolate. The bar is full bodied and the texture is smooth. A mellow, woody spice starts the flavor journey and moves into tobacco, biscuit and soft red fruit with a lovely nutty finish and lingering aftertaste. So good I want 5 more.
AAlisonDark and fudgey with a sweet honeyed spike and mild spice. Like a cup of earl gray tea with honey. Thick fudgey texture. Very pleasant. Well-balanced and satisfying. Dry aftertaste. I like the 80% Tien Giang better than the 70%--I found it more satisfying. The 70% is more subtle.
LL.P.I am a big fan of almost all Marou bars. This Wallpaper bar is the absolute ideal of really appealing taste profile (not too acidic, not smoky) with nice cocoa and floral notes, combined with perfect sweetness (the absolute right amount of sugar for this cocoa product, and good mouth feel. Oh, and it has only three ingredients! My favorite bar!!!
JJohn M.We love dark chocolate especially above 70%. The Marou are our favorites.
ccaterinaI did not find this bar very bitter or astringent but more fruity and spicy like honey, banana, blueberry, nuts, coffee, tea, cinnamon, and tobacco. Good one!
