Dick Taylor

Former boat makers and carpenters, Adam Dick and Dustin Taylor were intrigued by the new and challenging trend, craft bean to bar chocolate. They started making chocolate in a 500 sq. ft. space in Arcata, CA in 2010. Their chocolate business,  Dick Taylor, quickly evolved, and grew from their love and meticulous attention to detail. Their space in Eureka, CA boast their careful craftsmanship; into an interesting appearance with sharp letterpress packaging and an intricate, pretty mold. Dick Taylor also pushes the traditional methods of chocolate making to coax the maximum “pure” flavor they can from their beans and for their single origin chocolates. They support and purchase their beans through direct trade working directing with the farmers. Most of the bars in their collection are made from only 2 ingredients. They have won multiple awards for their bars in a few short years. Dick Taylor has ventured into rare parts of the jungle to find cacao beans no one has used before. They are constantly keeping up with the demand for chocolate but never cutting any corners to always provide the best chocolate.

Cacao region

Malekula Island

Malekula Island is the second-largest island in Vanuatu, where small-scale farmers have recently shifted focus from coconut to cacao cultivation. The cacao consists primarily of heirloom amelonado varietals introduced in the late 1800s, now carefully fermented and dried by producers like Roy and Lily Buktan. The island's careful post-harvest approach and small-scale production model result in distinctive character that appeals to craft chocolate makers worldwide.

Dick Taylor is always awesome

Excellent bar, very well made. We got notes of Earthy tobacco tootsie roll caramel brownie. Would eat again and again.

Distinct & delicious

This bar is described as having 'tobacco' tasting notes which I'd say is a great way to describe it. It has a deep, smokey taste that reminded me of dark roast coffee and wood smoke. This is definitely a distinct taste and not for everyone; personally, I really enjoyed it and would get it again but not eat it as frequently as other bars.

Stunning! Another excellent bar from Dick Taylor

Wonderful complexity, lead by classic chocolate notes with coffee, toasted almonds, walnut, heavy cream, vanilla, and citrus rind. Also, Dick Taylor's signature perfect texture. This is a limited edition bar so I would recommend getting it right away!
