Goodnow FarmsGoodnow Farms chocolate is handcrafted in Massachusetts. All the cacao they use is ethically sourced from small farmers and producers that Tom and Monica have met during their travels throughout Mexico, Central and South America. The cacao is carefully stone ground, and conched in small batches. They also press their own cocoa butter for each bar. They admired the concept of single origin bars and capturing the different taste profiles, and uniqueness through each bar. They discovered their love for real craft chocolate after visiting a vintage shop in Los Angeles. Tom and Monica officially created Goodnow Farms in 2016 but have been crafting their creations since 2008. The pair works hard to engage with the communities where they receive their cacao from to ensure farmers are fairly compensated and practice sustainable farming.

Cacao Region
Kerala, IndiaKerala is one of the prominent tourist destinations of India, with backwaters, hill stations, beaches, Ayurvedic tourism, and tropical greenery as its major attractions. Inland are the Western Ghats, mountains whose slopes support tea, coffee and spice plantations, as well as indigenous wildlife, such as elephants, langur monkeys, and tigers. Kerala is also known as the most educated state in India, with the highest literacy rate in the country and newspapers publishing in nine languages. Right now, Kerala contributes around one-third of India’s total cacao production.
Cacao Estate
GoGroundGoGround is a centralized cacao fermentary based in the Idukki Hills of the south Indian state of Kerala. During the high harvest from November to early February, the small team is driving around a few times a week to collect wet beans from the farmers they work with. Once everything is collected, the team puts it into their fermentation boxes, later drying and sorting the cacao. Commodity buyers have historically bought both dried cocoa and wet beans for their equivalent low prices, but companies like GoGround are working outside of India’s established cacao market. They pay farmers premium prices in cash for high quality cacao, collected directly each week or month, lessening the farmers’ burden of post-harvest processing. GoGround sells both organic and non-organic cocoa.
