Cacao Region

Visitors to the region generally come for camping in the mountains or a trek to one of the many archaeological sites throughout Huanuco.
Cacao Estate
Cooperativa NaranjilloCooperativa Agraria Industrial Naranjillo Limitada (COOPAIN) was founded in 1964 by a group of 32 farmers in the Peruvian Amazon city of Tingo Maria. The group’s objectives were two-fold: provide farmers with a dedicated route to market and guarantee fair prices for their products. Initially started as a coffee cooperative, cacao eventually began playing a very important role in the co-op’s business model, to the extent that the cocoa arm of their organization has been rebranded “Cooperativa Naranjillo.” Based firmly in the center of Peru, the many small cacao farms Naranjillo works with are all certified organic, and striving to use cacao as a tool to prevent deforestation in the Peruvian Amazon.
