Maker

Original Beans

Original Beans is passionate about being actively involved in the conservation of their cacao sources from Congo to Bolivia. They pride themselves on an ethical direct trade of their beans to ensure cacao farmers can achieve a livable income. They currently support 175 farming families full time. Original Beans finds the world’s rarest cacao beans to transform their unique flavors into incredible chocolate. What makes Original Beans unique, are the world's 50 best chefs that come together and work in creating the best chocolate bars. Through Original Beans hard efforts, they have already preserved heirloom and regional cacao varieties from nearing extinction! It all started back in 2008 when Philipp Kauffmann pursued his dream in creating a 100% regenerative business that gives more to the Earth than it takes. Kauffmann is the 7th generation of recognized forest scientists and explorers. Original Beans wrappers are environmentally friendly, packaged with the first garden compostable foil, made of woodfoil and cardboard which reduces negative environmental impacts by 82%. Every single bar you buy plants a tree in the rainforest, following the "one bar one tree" creed, and have already grown over 2 million trees! One of their bars, Femme de Virguna planted a quarter of a million cacao trees, and ultimately saved Congo’s forest from utter destruction!

Cacao Region

Cuzco, Peru

Cuzco is both a city and a department of Peru, famous as the home of the Incan ruins of Machu Picchu. The department is located in the southeast of the country; much of the landscape is made up of high-altitude settlements, especially in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, known as the gateway to Machu Picchu. Cuzco’s primary earnings come from tourism, but gold and natural gas extraction are also important. Native types of corn and quinoa, as well as tea and coffee, are the principal agricultural focuses, albeit at lower altitudes.

Cacao Strain

Chuncho

Chuncho cacao encompasses around a dozen related cultivars of the Upper Amazon Forastero group, now considered to be native to the Quillabamba Valley of central Peru. They’re believed to have been domesticated by the Matshiguenga people, whose members were ancestral inhabitants of the Valley. Chuncho trees bear small yellow fruits with small beans (less than 1g per bean), known for their high fat content and very high-altitude growing region (400m-1400m).

Original Beans Cusco Chuncho 100%

Exceptional 100% bar. Buttery satin texture. Flavor-wise bold, tangy and tart at the outset, mellowing into earth, sweetgrass and wildflowers. Positively mystic.

100%

I enjoy having 100% chocolate because I don’t do well with even small amounts of sugar or even small amounts of sweeteners including stevia. Plan to order this in future if I remember name but don’t want to pay for delivery again for just 2 or 3 of these.
