Auro ChocolateAuro Chocolate is a Filipino bean to bar chocolate company that practices sustainable harvesting of cacao which they get directly from farms in Davao Philippines. Owners Mark Ocampo and Kelly Go, originally political science majors, with no background in pastries or chocolate at all, took a trip to the Philippines where their love for small craft chocolate was born. Auro is committed to restore local heirloom varieties of Filipino cacao and showcase Filipino taste varieties and culture from the Davao region in some of their single estate chocolate bars. Auro provides support and education to its farmers to teach them organic farming and important business management fundamentals in order to improve their standards of living. Auro is globally recognized and have won awards for their chocolate. Mark and Kelly wanted their chocolate company to reflect something with gold. They believe that like gold, farmers and cacao are not given the recognition they deserve. Both gold and cacao are not fully cherished in its raw form until its been altered, that’s when people see its true value.

Cacao Region
Davao, PhilippinesOne of the smallest big cities in the Philippines, Davao City is affectionately known as both the cacao and durian capital of the country. In fact, often you'll see both fruit trees growing on the same plantations within city limits, yet due to large soil & cacao varietal differences, you'll find that the resulting chocolates taste nothing alike. The region is so widespread that there's even a citywide speed limit that makes a trip from one end to the other take nearly two hours without traffic!
Cacao Estate
Mang Jose EstateMang Jose Saguban of Paquibato, Davao City is one of Auro Chocolate’s original farming partners. The founders of Auro Chocolate first met Mang Jose in October 2015, and were impressed by his passion for cacao and leadership in his community. Mang Jose has been growing cacao since the 1970’s and believes in planting cacao that he personally enjoys consuming rather than just blindly following the advice of others. As a result, he has a lot of older varieties of cacao on his farm, including criollo varietals believed to have been brought over by the Spanish colonizers in the 17th century. In late 2019, Mang Jose’s cacao was announced among the world’s top 20 cacao beans by the Cocoa of Excellence Program.
