Cacao Region
Cotopaxi, EcuadorCotopaxi is an Ecuadorian province smack in the center of the country, just south of the capital city of Quito. The province is perhaps best known for the national park and its volcano of the same name, which draw thousands of visitors each month. A significant portion of the province is indigenous Ecuadorian, most of whom work in agriculture. Corn, potatoes, wheat, and flowers for export are the most common crops in the temperate zones, while cacao, coffee, and sugarcane dominate the province’s most tropical areas.
Cacao Estate
Hacienda LimonHacienda Limon is located at the foot of the Andes Mountain Range, between endless plantations of cacao and banana. The climate on the farm is tropical & humid year round, with nutrient-rich volcanic soil thanks to the nearby Cotopaxi Volcano. Owner Samuel von Rütte, together with his wife Anita & four other families, run the 110-hectare plantation, which is dominated by strains of pure nacional arriba cacao varietals. In 2014, one of these varietals was awarded a heirloom cacao designation status, ensuring the protection of variety diversity. No insecticides or fungicides are used on the farm, and only very reduced herbicides (spot application) are ever utilized.
I order this bar every year for the holidays! The flavors really represent the taste of Eccles cake! (I've been lucky enough to also try an actual Eccles cake made by Pump Street and it was amazing!).
Nice warm spice !
Delicious Eccles bar. Unfortunately, the gingerbread bar didn’t taste of gingerbread at all, more like just a plain chocolate bar-but still good chocolate.
We are in my "comfort food" zone here. This bar is delicate like an eclair dessert but more flavorful thanks to the spices and dried fruits. Chewy texture too.
