Direct-Source Cacao

Tasting Notes: This single origin bar is made from cacao grown in Sambirano Valley, Madagascar. This bar has a nice fruitiness and smoothness that makes for a wonderful introduction to those who are only familiar with milk chocolate,. The fresh, acidic sharp bouquet also makes this versatile and pairs well with both white and red wines. Try an acidic Sauvignon Blanc or a strong Zinfandel to mellow out the flavor.

Maker

Valrhona

Valrhona is recognized as one of the greatest bean to bar chocolate makers, and founded the world renowned Ecole du Grand Chocolat school, of which many excellent chocolate makers are graduates, including many featured in our Shop and Chocolate Club. Valrhona has been producing chocolate in the small village of Tain L’Hermitage, France since 1922. From the beginning, they have been dedicated to create the unique, artisan quality chocolate with complex, balanced and consistent flavors. With years of working towards perfecting techniques for enhancing the flavor of cocoa beans. In order to master the art of craft chocolate, they have their own plantations in Venezuela and the Dominican Republic.

Cacao Region

Sambirano Valley, Madagascar

Perhaps the most famous growing region in the world, northern Madagascar's Sambirano Valley is known for its incredibly fruity cacao and aromatic herbs & spices. Over the past few decades three main plantations have popped up in the area to supply cacao to chocolate makers around the world, as well as some of the world's most valuable botanicals, namely vanilla, ylang-ylang, and essential oil extracts.

Sweet!

Hard to mess up Madagascar. This bar was tasty but overly sweet. And why add vanilla? These beans speak for themselves.
