This chocolate has a very expressive cocoa aroma with subtle fruity-sweet tartness and pleasant flavor notes that evoke citrus and red berries. They combined it with the finest and rarest pepper, the voatsiperifery from Madagascar, whose earthy and woody taste is completed by intense flowery aromas bringing freshness to the palate.

Akesson'sAkesson's founded by Bertil Akesson is largely responsible for some of the super fine cacao we see coming from Madagascar. Bertil manages several estates in the Sambirano Valley, and also has a few plantations in Indonesia and Brazil. Bertil is one of the pioneers of the bean to bar chocolate movement, and produces a line of single origin and inclusion bars using the spices that also grow on his plantations. Akesson's focuses on high quality cocoa while maintaining sustainable practices. Not only has Akesson's won many awards, other chocolate makers have also won awards for their bars with Akesson's cacao.
Cacao Region
Sambirano Valley, MadagascarPerhaps the most famous growing region in the world, northern Madagascar's Sambirano Valley is known for its incredibly fruity cacao and aromatic herbs & spices. Over the past few decades three main plantations have popped up in the area to supply cacao to chocolate makers around the world, as well as some of the world's most valuable botanicals, namely vanilla, ylang-ylang, and essential oil extracts.
As others have noted, the pepper in this packs a punch. I think it's a terrific combination with the smooth and flavorful dark chocolate.
This is very unique, different kind of chocolate bar. The dark chocolate is amazing and the first time i tried it i thought it would be my fav, But, the thing is. There is SO MUCH strong powerful pepper in it, That you can not really eat a ton LOL. It's more for tasting, for maybe a digestive stimulant or something. It is like something you would eat for reasons other than enjoying in large amounts LOL i know with dark chocolate, you can't eat a ton anyway but with this, you only need one bite here and there to enjoy. It would be great to have during a chocolate tasting party with your friend :)
The aftertaste of the pepper stays a while.
This is my second favorite from Akesson's pepper offerings with black pepper being my favorite. If you enjoy dark chocolate with floral pepper kick try it
I love the taste of the peppers, but it simply overpowers the chocolate. If the amount of pepper were reduced by half or so it would be an excellent chocolate bar.
Having lived seven years in Madagascar, I'm a fan of Madagascar chocolates. I'm also a huge fan of the pairing of peppercorn with chocolate. I've tried every chocolate/peppercorn combo I've found, and for me, this one is my favorite. Voatsiperifery is a uniquely fruity, citrusy and aromatic peppercorn and it pairs perfectly with the Madagascar dark chocolate. I did a taste-testing of the three Akessons peppercorn chocolates with several friends and we all liked this one the best (closely followed by the pink peppercorn one).
