Auro Chocolate

Auro Chocolate is a Filipino bean to bar chocolate company that practices sustainable harvesting of cacao which they get directly from farms in Davao Philippines. Owners Mark Ocampo and Kelly Go, originally political science majors, with no background in pastries or chocolate at all, took a trip to the Philippines where their love for small craft chocolate was born. Auro is committed to restore local heirloom varieties of Filipino cacao and showcase Filipino taste varieties and culture from the Davao region in some of their single estate chocolate bars. Auro provides support and education to its farmers to teach them organic farming and important business management fundamentals in order to improve their standards of living. Auro is globally recognized and have won awards for their chocolate. Mark and Kelly wanted their chocolate company to reflect something with gold. They believe that like gold, farmers and cacao are not given the recognition they deserve. Both gold and cacao are not fully cherished in its raw form until its been altered, that’s when people see its true value.

Cacao Region

Davao, Philippines

One of the smallest big cities in the Philippines, Davao City is affectionately known as both the cacao and durian capital of the country. In fact, often you'll see both fruit trees growing on the same plantations within city limits, yet due to large soil & cacao varietal differences, you'll find that the resulting chocolates taste nothing alike. The region is so widespread that there's even a citywide speed limit that makes a trip from one end to the other take nearly two hours without traffic!

Customer Reviews

The bar is on the smaller side. But I really loved it. It was my favorite so far from the chocolate collection I received (milk selection). It's very creamy and not too sweet. You can feel some spicy notes.

Rich and creamy

Being in the US, 42% is a little high for milk chocolate. This bar did not disappoint. At first, I taste hints of dark chocolate, then it transforms into a rich yet creamy experience. The first thing that came to mind when eating it was that it reminded me of a perfectly made cup of hot chocolate. If you’re in search for a regular milk bar with no additional flavors, spices, or anything else, I do recommend this bar.

Thinner than I was expecting, but the overall quality was great. I would call this a “dark milk” chocolate.

Good, not great

Very high quality, but I was looking for a slightly deeper flavor.

Really good

Did try it during a recent vacation in the Philippines as a part of the meal serve by Philippine Airlines. I was expecting it with cocoa nibs too like what I had in the plane. Still worth it to give 5 star, it wasn’t that sweet like the other reviews mentioned some spicy notes, just really good. Tried moringa with rice crispy, my husband enjoyed it & said it’s with a similar taste to matcha. Packaging was classy. It was shipped promptly with ice gel, left at the porch for 2 days(OOT) at high 90’s weather, didn’t melt.
