Soconusco is a region in Chiapas, Mexico, on the border with Guatemala between volcanic peaks and the Pacific Ocean. Known as the birthplace of cacao, it has been home to cacao cultivation for nearly 4,000 years and is recognized as producing some of the world's finest chocolate. Today, dedicated farmers are rescuing heirloom cacao varieties in this historically significant region.
