He started producing his own chocolate in 1997, creating a single origin and single estate bar from high quality ingredients. While Michel Cluizel is a much bigger enterprise than many of the craft chocolate makers we feature on this site, this classic European chocolate has its roots in pure craftsmanship. The company is now on its third generation of chocolate makers. They have maintained a quality line of single origin chocolate plain and inclusion bars that continue to win awards.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my wife. A day after Christmas she opened the box and tried one of the chocolates. Her expression seemed to say she was underwhelmed. When asked about it, she showed me the “expiration date” on the bottom of the box….Dec. 20, 2025. The chocolates were all dried out and tasteless. Planning on returning to the store for a refund or new box.
