What happens to the peel when you have squeezed all the juice out of an orange? Waste orange peel from Natoora gets roasted, and freeze dried to make this incredible chocolate bar. A marriage of orange peel and rainforest saving cocoa beans. Fixing the food system by thinking outside the juice box. The cocoa beans for this dark chocolate come from Gola Rainforest in Sierra Leone, here various charities including RSPB have been working with local farmers to grow crops in harmony with the rainforest including cocoa. We are proud to have been working with this project for years.

Cacao Region

Gola Rainforest, Sierra Leone

Only declared to be a national park at the end of 2010, the Gola Rainforest is Sierra Leone’s largest swath of rainforest, and at one point, was one of the most commercially exploited. Now it’s known as home to hundreds of species of birds, butterflies, and mammals, including a small number of wild elephants. The cacao produced in the area is processed by the Goleagorbu Cocoa Producers Organisation (GCPO), an umbrella association of nearly 2000 cocoa farmers who live in the forest edge communities surrounding the Park.
