Maker
Marou ChocolateMarou Chocolat was started by two Frenchmen Samuel Maruta and Vincent Mourou in Saigon. After a camping trip in Vietnam, that left them venturing onto a cacao farm, they were sold on their next adventure, chocolate. They only had minimal everyday kitchen appliances at the time and started testing how to make chocolate in Sam’s kitchen. They work closely with farmers and slow roast the beans in small batches to get the natural flavors from its terroir and let it do all the work. They are the first bean to bar Vietnamese chocolate makers. Their bars captivate flavors from each region they receive their cacao beans from.

Cacao Region
Dak Lak, VietnamDak Lak is a province in Vietnam's Central Highlands, home to quite a few indigenous ethnic minorities, most of whom are primarily involved in agriculture. The climate here is decidedly tropical, with the main difference in weather throughout the year due to varying rainfall. Coffee, fruit, and rubber trees play an important part in the region's economy, though recently there have been efforts to harness the province's considerable potential for hydroelectric power generation.
I'm a huge fan of the full-sized bars, but the minis are great for a quick snack!
I tried the tropical fruits and cashews snack bar. The fruits had great flavor, and there were big pieces of cashews. Very flavorful!
I saw this product while watching the Vietnam episode of "Somebody Feed Phil" on Netflix. As a chocolate lover, I couldn't resist. I bought 6 different flavors of the smaller bar and I love every one of them. Each one has its own distinct flavor and % of cacao. Try them all.
This review is for the Dong Nai (My other review of the Ba Ria is here too which I gave 5 stars for it being excellent and smooth as a higher % cacao) The Dong Nai is less cacao and not as flavorful but still a good bar of chocolate. I got these mini bars to give away but am hoarding them along with the Ba Ria. Not sure if anyone I know deserves this delicious chocolate more than I do ;-)
I found this chocolate on sale in full-size bars at my local Whole Foods. I tried one and went back for many more before the sale ended. This chocolate is so smooth and full of flavor. I don't find it mild at all.
I ordered the mini bars to share but I like it so much I am being greedy and keeping it to myself...for now ;-\ The mini bars are thin and melt quickly on the tongue so the flavor develops quickly. Definitely a top-notch chocolate.
