Qantu

Qantu is a chocolate maker based in Montreal. Qantu was started by Elfi and Maxime in 2016. This pair fell in love with bean to bar chocolate after researching cocoa after their first plantation visit in 2014. The immense passion and pride of the cocoa producers inspired them to create bean to bar chocolate. Qantu focuses on Peruvian cacao for the moment, which is where Maxime and Elfi met over a decade ago in Elfi’s home country. The name “ Qantu” (pronounced “Kantu”) derives from the name of the national flower of Peru and Bolivia. The word comes from the native language of the Peruvian Andes, Quechua, it represents a symbol of unity and hospitality.

The best chocolate I've ever eaten!!!!

This is by far the most expensive chocolate I've ever bought, and it's likely the most expensive food per gram I've ever eaten- but (as they say in Québec) MON DIEU it is worth every single dollar! I got this bar as part of a birthday gift, and I'm so glad I 'splurged' on it. Trying it was such a unique experience that I had to share some with my husband and my mom because I couldn't keep it all to myself.

Wrapped in a special golden foil, the first thing I noticed was the color; it was much lighter than expected for an 80% dark. The taste is absolutely incredible! It's not bitter at all but instead sweet, so creamy, rich, and fudgy! It tastes like chocolate ganache in bar form. I've never had a dark chocolate that was as rich and fudge-like as this bar. Kudos to Qantu and the forager they work with to find the cacao- this bar is exquisite!

So unique!

While pricey, this bar is completely unique. It's hard to believe it's 80% cacao, with the light color, but the taste is all dark chocolate! What an unusual and delicious chocolate!
